The hope at the heart of the Austin Alumni Chapter Adopt-A-School program is to develop leadership skills while monitoring, encouraging, and rewarding outstanding academic performance. This is achieved through building strong, lasting, community partnerships with local schools.
The current school that the Austin Alumni Chapter partners with is Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy (@GusGarciaYMLA). The focus over the years has been aligned with the school's objectives. This year the focus has been on increasing school attendance and reducing the amount of "tardies" students have in the term/year. The chapter has sponsored “No Tardy Parties” at the end of each term for those students with perfect or increased attendance. Other activities include mentoring young men and sponsoring the school's end of year banquet.
